Year 1 Medical Student (2023)
I have been anticipating my first time dissecting a human body, and this experience has been more fruitful and wonderful than I had imagined. I loved that we all had a moment of silence during the ceremony at the beginning, which reminded me of the great contribution of the Great Body Teachers and the utmost respect they deserve. During the dissection practical, I was able to appreciate what different body parts feel and look like-such as how much thinner or smaller some structures are, and the differences in veins, arteries and nerves. I was also able to get hands-on experience in using the tools to dissect the body, and understood why the blunt scissors should be used more often than the scalpel- to preserve some structures like nerves. Being able to work in a group allowed me to learn from others as well, as some students were better at recognising the veins or nerves, while some are good at using the tools. I am very grateful for the professors and seniors who were there to help us as well, teaching us how to correctly perform the dissection, and the useful knowledge about the human anatomy. I have learnt a lot in this practical, thanks to the Great Body Teachers, professors and seniors. Without the contribution of the Great Body Teachers, I would not be able to appreciate the human body anatomy in real life, which is vastly different from textbooks or videos. I am very grateful for this opportunity and will continue learning while bearing respect and thankfulness as well in the future.
